About Mary
Math Drawings creator, Mary Smale, has been a math and art instructor in the Los Angeles area for over 35 years.
Mary was featured on the popular television show, Homework Hotline (on KLCS, a PBS station out of Los Angeles), and has helped countless students and teachers to share and enjoy her unique vision of combining math concepts and drawing.

Mrs. Smale developed Math Drawings as a way to make the learning of basic geometry vocabulary fun. She knew the students enjoyed drawing because she’d been confiscating their surreptitious art work for years.
No surprise here – the students became so totally engaged in the new math/art lessons and enjoyed them so much, that now she uses them as a bargaining tool; she makes them earn these lessons through on-task working and good behavior.
Mary Smale currently conducts teacher-training workshops in the use of Math Drawings and teaches Honors Algebra and Algebra Readiness to 8th graders at a middle school in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles.
Mary is currently at work on her second Math Drawing book, so stay in touch with her website for news of its release.
